PMCE were commissioned by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to conduct a collision study on a 75km section of motorway to determine if collision occurrence was higher than expected and to identify possible contributory factors.
Multiple data sets were used in the study including geometric data, collision records, weather data, SCRIM results, vehicle specification, speed data and site observations. From the data obtained, analyses were conducted on factors such as driving behaviour during adverse weather and a comparative study of collisions involving rear wheel and front wheel drive vehicles.
The analysis conducted through this report was submitted to the 6th International Symposium on Highway Geometric Design and has been accepted for further review and presentation in Amsterdam in 2020.
