A77 Maybole Bypass, Maybole, Scotland
The A77 trunk road forms a strategic link from Glasgow to Stranraer serving Ayrshire and the Northern Ireland ferry ports. It passes through the centre of Maybole along the High Street, which has restricted carriageway and footway widths and limited parking provision. The town was congested partly as a result of the large numbers of cars and heavy goods vehicles using the A77 traveling to and from the port facilities at Cairnryan. This resulted in poor conditions for pedestrians and road users alike.
The project included the following key features:
- A new 5.2km bypass of Maybole
- New roundabouts at the tie-ins to the existing A77 at Broomknowes and Smithston
- Three principal structures on the new bypass
- Climbing lanes provided on the steeper sections of alignment
Realignment and upgrading of the existing Abbotsinch Road, Glasgow, Scotland
Abbotsinch Road is located near Glasgow Airport in Paisley, Scotland. To support continued growth in the region, Abbotsinch Road was upgraded to support increased vehicle, pedestrian, and cyclist volumes, whilst opening up new land for development.
The project included the following key features:
- Realignment and upgrading of Abbotsinch Road – including 1.6km of new road – to establish a high-quality gateway into the new investment area
- A new 70m, two-lane bridge over the White Cart River
- Active travel routes of pedestrian walkways and cycle lanes incorporated into all new roads and bridges
- A 2km off-road cycleway connecting the realigned Abbotsinch Road to Inchinnan Business Park.
- A 100m cycleway and pedestrian bridge spanning the Black Cart.
