The Margaret Skinnider Roundabout is located at the junction of Clones Road (N54) & Park Street (R867), in Monaghan Town, and was identified as having an historically poor collision rate.

PMCE were appointed by Monaghan County Council to review the historical collision data at the junction and to suggest improvements to reduce collision numbers and severity. The improvements proposed to the Margaret Skinnider Roundabout included: –

  • Amendments to the roundabout entries and exits to encourage slower vehicular speeds
  • Improved pedestrian facilities & crossings on all arms of the roundabout, providing a signalised crossing of Clones Road for school pupils and the removal of redundant crossings
  • Reducing the width of the roundabout circulating carriageway to 4.5m, by providing a 1.5m hatched area on the inside of the circulating carriageway
  • Providing a 6m wide over-run apron to accommodate Heavy Goods Vehicles travelling through the roundabout
  • Undergrounding of overhead electricity supply cables and removal of a utility pole within the footpath

As part of our appointment PMCE prepared: –

    • a Preliminary Appraisal
    • a Preliminary Design
    • documents to support the Part 8 Planning process
    • a Detailed Design
    • Contract/Tender Documentation
